While Count John ‘the Blind’ is celebrated as a national hero in Luxembourg, 1939 the Czech historian J. Šusta famously coined his image ‘King Foreigner’ (král cizinec). In fact, due to murder of last male Přemyslid, Wenceslas III, for first time history, Kingdom Bohemia was forced elevate king representative non-Bohemian dynasty. To what extent Luxembourg on Bohemian throne considered ‘foreign’ fourteenth-century Bohemia? What factors did contemporaries use define potential otherness? The paper shows phases rule where aspect ‘foreignness’ determined public discourse, and goals various groups actors intended achieve by recourse it.
